Black Comedy

Photobutton3 This production was an amazing evening consisting of entertainment of all sorts including songs, supper and a performance of Peter Schaffer’s “Black Comedy”. The first half of the evening treated us to a variety of songs from stage, opera and a few old favourites. Directed and accompanied by Felicity Courage, we were amazed by the vocal talents of these fine young singers. During the interval a supper of smoked salmon, caviar, and plenty of bubbly was served. In the second half, were were treated to “Black Comedy”. This production was great a tribute to the professionalism of the Courage Performers and The Bradfordians cast and crew.

Directed by the award winning director Simon Blacksell, “Black Comedy” revolves around Brindsley Miller, a young and struggling sculpter. The action takes place over one short evening in his shabby flat. He and his fiancee Carol have invited Bamberger, a German millionaire to look at Brindsley’s work. In order to impress Bamberger, they have ‘borrowed’ some antiques from a neighbour Harold Gorringe. Carol’s formidable father ‘Colonel Melkett’, has also been invited for the evening. Suddenly the lights fuse and the arrival of some unexpected visitors effectively wrecks the evening.
